Anthony J. McSwain is a children's book author and lifelong graphic designer whose love of storytelling began with the imagination of his daughter, Ella. Together, they transformed a simple sticker activity into the first Ella the Restless Princess adventure, inspiring a series that continues to grow today.

With over 30 years of professional graphic design experience, Anthony combines storytelling and visual creativity to craft imaginative adventures that encourage curiosity, kindness, perseverance, and a love of reading. He is also a passionate mentor who has spoken to schools and community organizations about creativity and graphic design. He enjoys inspiring young readers to embrace their creativity and discover the magic of creating their own stories.

Before there was Twinklemist, there was Ella.

The inspiration for Ella the Restless Princess began with my daughter, Ella. What started as simple moments of imagination and storytelling together eventually grew into Princess Ella, the magical world of Twinklemist, and a series of adventures that have become an important part of our lives.

This photo was taken not long before I began writing the first book. At the time, I had no idea how far that first story would take us. Looking at it today reminds me that before there were books, illustrations, characters, or a place called Twinklemist, there was simply a dad, his daughter, and a story waiting to be told.

Favorite color:

I love color combinations, especially purple and yellow or orange and black.

Favorite snack while writing:

This is a tough one because I enjoy several snacks. Since adopting a healthier lifestyle, my favorite writing snacks are cherries, grapes, and peanuts.

Favorite character:

Of course, my favorite character is Ella. Although the story version of Ella is different from my daughter, there are similarities, including her bravery, kindness, and determination.

Favorite art medium:

My love for art and design began with crayons and pencils. I especially enjoy drawing by hand and then bringing those illustrations to life on the computer. That's where the real magic happens.

Favorite children's book:

This is another tough choice because it's hard to pick just one. My favorites are probably the The Boxcar Children series by Gertrude Chandler Warner and Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.

Favorite place to visit:

Branson is like a second home to my family. We've been taking summer trips there since I was a kid. I especially enjoy visiting the The Butterfly Palace & Rainforest Adventure, Branson Landing, Silver Dollar City, spending time at the lake, and exploring antique shops.

Favorite hobby:

My favorite hobbies are creating art, writing books, and collecting toys from the 1980s. I'm a big fan of '80s nostalgia.
